Tonga's Take on the Game:
Chelsea FC's memory of the loss to Barcelona in UEFA semi finals were wiped out as they go head to head with the Toffees (Everton) in the FA Cup Final!
Everton clearly the underdogs were determined to win some silverware. With players like Aussie Tim Cahill, the Afroman Fellani and former Manchester United player Louis Saha, it won't be a walk in the park for Chelsea.
The game ws fantastic to watch!! Everton surprised everyone with Louis Sahar's 25 second goal. It left Chelsea suprised and puzzled! Its the fastest goal scored in the FA Cup Final!
But after that goal, Chelsea just basically dominated everything! In the 20th minute, French winger Malouda crosses and with the Everton defence ball watching, Drogba pops out of no where, 4 against 1 and headers in a goal!
And then in the second half inspirational Frank Lampard, scores a fantastic goal from outside the box with his opposite foot to win Chelsea the game!
Chelsea deserved to win the game with numerous chances and dominant possession. A few bad referee decisions like, Malouda having his goal disallowed, and Michael Essien not getting a yellow for grabbing someone's leg. But overall it was a great match! This will inspire me to do well in exams!!
It's the perfect goodbye gift to their manager Guus Hiddink who leaves the club to coach Russia in qualifying for World Cup next year! I would rate Guus Hiddink in the top 3 football managers in the world! He has good composure, excellent tactician/strategist, invigorate players/teams to top form, friendly, and is honest. It is sad to see him leave!
Lampard scored his 20th goal of the season, meaning he has scored 100 goals in 5 seasons! that is exceptionally good for a midfielder! Well done!
Sympathy for Tim Cahill who didn't score a goal! He's a great role model for Australia! Overall I am very satisfied with Chelsea winning a trophy! They deserve it! I hope for another trophy next season!

Jordan's Take
(For anyone who doesn't like football, you'd best being heading off, this post is biblical in proportion)
(For anyone who doesn't like football, you'd best being heading off, this post is biblical in proportion)
It's been quite a week of football. Man United dominated by Barcelona for starters and then this 2 - 1 match between Everton and Chelsea. I was hesitant to pick a side to cheer for; Everton have Tim Cahill and the hair raising Fellani as well as being the underdogs but I sided with Chelsea on accounts of John Terry and Frank Lampard who are my favourite English players but mainly because of the huge respect I have for Guus Hiddink.
So all in all it was a good match, I even watched it a second time which gave me time to think about things.

Forever I've been stuck between liking Lampard or Gerrard more. Prior to yesterday I thought Gerrard (his influence in Liverpool and off the pitch attitude) no contest but yesterdays match showed me why I was wrong. Lampard is the most respectable player out there, he's got so much history in his football; Cousins with Jamie Redknapp, nephew of Spurs coach Harry Redknapp and son of Frank Lampard Sr, a former England fullback and two-time FA Cup winner with the West Ham. He values family above anything else, when Lampard scored yesterday, he mimicked his fathers Cup winning celebration and then pointed to the sky, refering to his deceased mother.
Football wise Frank has lethal shooting accuracy with both feet whether he is at close range or going spectacular long range. Gerrard on the other hand is a work horse, chasing down every ball and making tackles John Terry fantasises about. He's got a keen eye for passing, which can break through defenses, his crosses and free kicks are tip top and he's also got lethal long range ability, superb timing and a decent amount of speed.
In the end I've gone from being a Gerrard fanboy to being a Gerrard and Lampard fanboy. The decision between them is impossible to make, both are god's of the game.

That was just one thing I came to understand thanks to the Chelsea Everton match. My next discovery is that Guus Hiddink is a truly magnificent Manager. Let's look at his past achievements (thanks to wikipedia); winning the European treble (Eredivisie, Dutch Cup and European Cup) with PSV Eindhoven; leading South Korea to a fourth place finish in the 2002 FIFA World Cup; managing the Netherlands into the same position in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, losing to eventual runner-up Brazil on penalties; leading Australia to the second round at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, their first appearance in the tournament for 32 years; leading Russia to the semi-finals of Euro 2008, Russia's best performance since the breakup of the Soviet Union.
An impressive history to say the least. After watching his interview prior to the FA cup I began to learn of his tactical genius and his great attitude. I'm sure thousands of people have Russia as there second favourite team in the World Cup thanks to Guus's presence, I'm not one of them people but Russia is up there on the list, in order; England, Australia, Holland, Russia.
Alright I'm done, longest post I've ever done, thanks for reading and hopefully we get a good football debate going in the comments like what happened a few weeks ago. That said it's probably going to end up a bunch of (U r an IdIot!!!11, Gerrard is tha best eva.) thanks to all the Gerrard fanboys.
Match highlights (skip this anyone who watched it):
To everyone's surprise 25 seconds in we had the first goal, a wonderful piece of finishing by Saha who hit the ball left footed on the edge on the turn, leaving Cech no chance. From there though Everton slumped; Chelsea dominating, scored the equaliser through Drogba's header. Half time, followed by more Chelsea domination and then Lampards semi brilliant goal, shot from outside the box. Soon after Malouda's 34 yard shot hits the cross bar, hits the ground inside the goals and spins out, due to the neither the linesman or referee being a position of seeing whether the ball was over the goal line or not the goal was not given. So all in all it was a good match, I even watched it a second time which gave me time to think about things.

hey everyone, sorry i'm late, studying for exams!
ReplyDeleteI was going to post the FA Cup Finals today but looks like Jordan beat me to it. It's cool. You left me a section to write my thoughts about the match. Which i am going to do now.
I was kinda going for everton, I am happy Guus Hiddink won a trophy, see the footage of him celebrating with a cigar?
ReplyDeleteit was epic
*but I am happy
ReplyDeleteaww dude, whats with all these people voting lampard, gerrard is OBV way better
ReplyDeletei think we should thank tonga! he's the one who told us about when the FA Cup final is being played! otherwise we wouldnt watch it! i bet he works for SBS!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU TONGA! ILY!
ReplyDeleteNational Team Stats
ReplyDeleteSteven Gerrard 30 May 1980 (1980-05-30) (age 29) Liverpool 72 (14) v Ukraine, 31 May 2000
Frank Lampard 20 June 1978 (1978-06-20) (age 30) Chelsea 69 (15) v Belgium, 10 October 1999
DOB Team Games (goals) Debut
ReplyDeleteGerrard has been called up more than Lampard, despite being younger and having debuted a year later
ReplyDeleteit kinda does...
ReplyDeleteit means lampard has been part of the squad for longer, but not necissarily the starting 11 or w/e, where as gerrard has been more, even tho being in the squad for a year less
that and habib
ReplyDeletewhy cant u get a cup of tea at old trafford???
ReplyDeletecause all the mugs are on the pitch and all the cups are at anfield!!!
Nice one riley.
ReplyDeleteOld Trafford is a soccer ground? That is where they played the glorious edgebaston test match in 2005 ashes series.
ReplyDeleteFucking Australia were so fucked, then warne got like 60 and have them a chance, then he stepped on his stumps and the final pair needed like 50 runs to win, with 2 runs need, Kasprowics was given caught behind when he didnt hit it.
Richie Benaud called it the best test match of our time.
This is all from memory, i think i might check the wiki
oh yeah this post is about soccer... uh... gerrard is a ranga, so he sucks
Lampard is better then Gerrard because he plays for Chelsea & Gerrard sucks ballz. One of the worst CRAPtains in the world.
ReplyDeleteAlso the question was who do you like best not who is better so riley go and keep sulking cause u didn't win a trophy.
ReplyDeletei mean your team* liverpool
ReplyDeleteif the question is who i like best its still gerrard...
ReplyDeletethe only thing lampard has got on gerrard is maybe his left foot and his complacency, but even that isnt necissarily a good thing, as it means gerrard is often a more explosive and influential player on the pitch, and can single handedly turn a game around. Honestly, i think chelsea have more quality players than liverpool, and as such, Lampard is supported by all these excellent players around him, wheras Gerrard carries his team more. I dont mean to take anything away from the likes of Mascherano and Kuyt, who are excellent players, but perhaps not quite up to the standard of chelsea's midfield.
ReplyDeletehey everyone!
ReplyDeleteok about lampard vs gerrard!
finn, gerrard is not a ranga! the questions ask who do you like better? doesnt necessarily mean who is the best! it means in your opinion who do you like better!
gerrard and lampard are 2 fantastic english midfielders. Both can change the game, great finishing, one of the best penalty takers, good at crossing/passing, inspirational, etc.
But Gerrard is technically the better player. One of the best at long shot finishing, inspirational skipper, bit younger and has more appearances than lampard. He also a local player for Liverpool. Yeah everyone respects and likes him.
Liverpool has lots of good history. One of the most successful english team ever. Winning 19 premier league titles. and 5 UEFA Champions Leagues and many more. History lesson for Liverpool supporters if they didn;t know.
But Chelsea haven't got good history as Liverpool. Not won a UEFA Champions League at all. And only won 3 premier league titles! 2 of them this century!
This era is when Chelsea has become a great club. With Lampard inspiring the team to victory! His composure, can play with both feet, good team player, sportsmanship, passes/assists, shooting, good discipline record. all of this has made him respected by everyone. Which is why I voted for Lampard.
But overall, I reckon Gerrard is a sensational player. But Lampard is also sensational. I don't care about who has the better statistics, they both are one of the best midfielders in the game.
All other teams in the world cup should watch out for these 2. because if they combine together their abilities, nothing will stop them in england winning a world cup next year!
Looks like i'm already prepared for english exam tomorrow. which is good! Ok i see you guys around tomorrow or other days because I'm not on msn tonight! Good luck with exams. eat healthy, get good sleep, study hard. and you will succeed!
