A quick update on: Swine flu, Walking like an Egyptian and the joys of coca cola

CAUTION
This post has:

For starters Kia gave me the swine flu. I could barely breath this morning as my nose was completely blocked. Last night I went to bed at 7.00 hoping to fight this microscopic demon in my sleep but it was rough. I'd be sweating, boiling hot one minute then I'd be freezing cold the next. Luckily for me the cure for swine flu is a nice relaxing day off. Now I know I missed kebabs but it was worth it. I relaxed with enough cups of tea to last Britain a week, I read a bit of The Book Thief for English, I even studied accounting and did the dishes so a productive day.

More importantly, last night I wanted to talk about Egypt vs Brazil which was one of the best football matches I've seen since watching Turkey play in Euro 2008. Like any rational human being I was under the impression Egypt would get thrashed in a boring 8-0 loss. 4 minutes in and it looked like I was right with Brazil scoring an early goal. 4 minutes later, to my utter surprise Egypt score a fantastic equaliser. Then for some reason I fell asleep, waking up to the score being 3-1 in favour of Brazil. Out of nowhere Egypt play some wonderfull football and score not once but twice, score now 3 - 3. I got so unbelievably into this match I was practically screaming at the TV. Egypt played sensational football, better than England, almost as good as Holland for god's sake. I was devastated when Kaka drilled in the 90'th minute penalty as a result of a handball in the box. If Egpyt could defend set pieces a little better they'd be a force to be reckoned with. I was wondering who to go for in the Confederations Cup and I got my answer in a fantastic match, Egypt bring the trophy home.

*Update*
Lastly I want to express the feeling of having my team be in a league with the name of a soft drink in it. The fixtures have just been released for The Coca Cola Football League and on the first day the mighty Newcastle have drawn West Brom. Seriosuly. The Coca Cola Football League it sounds like a league where a group of kids would play. Of course we're all hoping for a speedy recovery of Newcastle and to see them claw there way back into the respectable Premier League, a good FA cup run this season would be nice but all I want is promotion.

The Adventures of Jordan and friends.

During the forty five hour expedition that was my Thursday and Friday, me and my posse covered roughly 62.75 kilometers. Now you don't cover that much ground and spend that much time with people without having some good experiences so here's a low down on the adventure. Just take any racism on the chin it's purely unintentional.

The voyage began for most at 11.30 Thursday, after a thrilling Modern History test which I passed no sweat. From the school we walked to Alex's house to pick up some supplies (meat pies, speakers, strobe light.) Four hours later we started the hike to Andrews house. Half way through of course the monsoon rains came, battering our poor equipment (strobe light, speakers, ipods, phones, bags and meat pies.) Sprinted to Andrew house where we dried off and enjoyed our first meal of the day, shrimp things, fish and meat pies. We couldn't leave without a game of fifa 96, with it's intense graphics and impressive loading time. Our next means of transport was Andrews mum.
Andrews Mum: "Andrew you know what you could cook tonight"
Me: "Spaghetti Bolagnaise"
For some reason she didn't seem to like my stereotypical guess despite it being 100% correct.

The journey moved on, into the depths of Polina's house. The entertainment here was off the hook. The native Italian was in the kitchen pretty much all night. He cooked meat balls which were excellent, followed by spaghetti which was alright after he forgot about the sauce and burnt it to a crisp. Next came the first disaster. After whipping out ingredients for a giant cookie are expectations and hopes were high. A series of mistakes, using tin foil instead of baking paper and leaving it in the oven for too long saw the bottom of the cookie become a piece of ash. With an early start the next day we hit the hay at 2.00ish.

Come 9.00 I was up and assembling the group for the 47.47km part of our exhibition.
Riley of course went home because he has down syndrome and missed the best part of the 45 hours. We consumed some cereal to give us the energy to walk to the train station which we did, rather groggy and missed the train by some 12 seconds. A 15 minute wait and we were on our way into the city where we went to the state library to acquire more crew members. At the library we found 19 or so native Asians. We all went and bought meat, mustard, buns and an onion. Back to the train station and soon enough we were speeding along the Fremantle line, destination Cottesloe.

Upon arrival the sky were staring at us with dark, angry clouds and it looked like it was going to poor down. Non the less we trudged on, up a massive hill and back down the other side with the ocean greeting us happily. At the beach we find that there is no barbecues. We look left and right and find nothing. I couldn't care less I was full of various liquids and started up a game of volleyball which was surprisingly fun. Naturally it was Asians vs whites but no points were kept (we won of course but we didn't gloat.) In the sand there were diving shots, backwards shots and a ninja kick all tied up with some thrilling rallies. While this was going on Nathan went out hunting for a barbecue and what he found blew us away. He came back and headed us through back streets and large hills but it was all worth it in the end.
We climbed some stairs and then some more stairs before reaching the best park in Perth. It was massive, rectangular, perfect for football, isolated, two barbecues and it over looked the ocean. While the White's frolicked in the now sunny day the Asians set to work cooking. They whipped up some hot dogs, master chief style. Mustard, tomato sauce, onions all made for an excellent starter. Chicken wings followed and then still hungry Andrew and I showed the Asians the magic of fried toast. Placing the unused rolls on the grill, soaking up the oil and chicken/sausage fat they toasted to perfection and were topped off with mustard and tomato sauce which made for excellent tasting food.

After some football and human pyramids we were ready to head off. Of course we couldn't leave without the Asians wanting a group photo for there precious Myspace so we spent 20 minutes trying to get the perfect shot.

The pain of a failed human pyramid

The joys of a successfull human pyramid

*Sorry about the quality*

Tonga arrives on his favourite means of transport.

The group split up and the only Asians left were Nathan and Derreck. We voyaged back up the hill and back to the train station where we headed back to Polinas. We got our 'supplies' from the fridge and headed to our next base camp, Finn's. The journey to Finn's was a rough and pain full one, carrying speakers, drinks a strobe light and some sausages we mazed around ashfield/basendean in the dark until finally realising we were lost. We called Finn who reluctantly found us and guided us to his shack. The spider webs were the most impressive thing in Finn's house, they windows of the kitchen were covered in it and the corner of Finn's room was home to no less than 9 spiders. While we waited for Chris, Jack and Diego there was only one thing to do. Play Fifa. I dominated winning 3/3 games. That's when the campaign took it's first and only casualty, me. Suffering from mild dehydration my brain had expanded to the size of a beach ball and my skull has shrunk to the size of a pea, leaving me with one hell of a headache. The party moved on into the small caravan out back where trance blazed and strobes flashed. The party wound down pretty early thanks to the biblical journey we had completed earlier that day. It ended with the watching of Sean of the Dead which was pretty good and then a freezing cold snooze on the filthy mattress sprawled on the floor of the caravan. Using my resourcefulness I solved the problem of no pillow by using a small teddy bear. The night was rough with constant waking up thanks to the uncomfortableness and coldness. Morning was upon us and everyone dissembled at 8.00, places to be, people to see.

Longest post ever. The only people that will enjoy it is those who were there, if you feel I missed a particular highlight let me know in the comments and I might add it. Now I'd best be off, I've got work in 10 minutes followed by some sleep and then an attempt to watch all 24 hours of Le Mans. Wish me luck.

*Update*
I bought $20 worth of energy drinks and food for Le Mans tonight. I'm going for Drayson Racing because all the drivers are English.

The story of my calculator

I've never been a fan of graphics calculators. They're expensive, hard to use and generally useless but my opinion changed yesterday when I witnessed the most valiant effort ever performed by a graphics calculator

An hour into the Maths Exam I needed my neglected Graphics Calculator (who I later named Srgt. Yadav after Yogendra Singh Yadav). I turn it on to be greeted by
"Batteries critically low, replace immediately." I look at the exam, there are heaps of questions which my old calculator, speedy as it is, cannot do.
"Don't die on me graphics calculator!" I scream, in my head.
The screen fades but the calculator is still functional. I quickly punch in some questions, it's still going, I punch in some more and it handles it like a pro. This went on for about 45 minutes, me relying on a dying calculator. It survived the whole exam, on the last question as I wrote the answer down the poor thing died. It had given it's life fighting the war against math questions.

RIP Srgt. Yadav, without your determined fight against time I would have failed the math's exam.

Helpin' The Charities.

After watching Australia's boring 0-0 draw with Qatar I hit the hay at 2.00am. Three and a half hours later I'm back up, on my way to help the community to do this stupid 20 hours. Some charity thing where people run up stairs, sounded thrilling. FREEZING COLD! Unbelievably cold. Non the less I get in the car to pick up my trusty side kick Degano (or as the event organiser called him De-gay-no.)

That's what people were running up!

In all honesty it wasn't that bad. At the start Andrew and I were split up which was kind of lame, I asked if I could swap jobs and she said "No, your job is vital." So I was expecting a busy job with loads of work. My instructions were to make sure people find the stairs. Now my, my this was difficult, there were barriers leading from the start to the stairs so clearly it was a struggle for me. After five minutes of watching the barrier do my job flawlessly I went and chilled with Andrew who had to give out envelopes with t-shirts in them to competitors.

Here's the fun part; a lady asked us to take a photo of her group. The girl next to me had a mitten on and I had the other one on so we forced Andrew to do it.
"Nah, I'll stuff it up," Andrew whines.
"Just do it,"

So the lady passes Andrew the camera only to see it fall through Andrews hands onto the table followed by a facepalming and laughing from the girl next to me and me. Eventually Andrew manages to take the photo and once the ladies are out of ear shot begins his defense.
"My hands were cold and the lady dropped it, without me being ready. I don't have ninja reflexes."

The rest of my day involved waiting around for my sisters 'gig' to start. Basically it was a truck with a stage on the back parked in front of sound centre and my sister was playing guitar and singing =/. After an hour of waiting for it to start I got bored and walked home.
Then I went coach potato and watched world cup qualifiers. To top off this highly entertaining, adrenaline filled day, Formula One starts in half an hour.
